In 2021, the artist collective Mondongo began installing their work The Baptistery of Colors at Barro Gallery in Buenos Aires, inspired by the Swiss theorist Johannes Itten’s treatise Kunst der Farbe (The Art of Color). Let us call this “Situation A.”
In 2023, art historian Gabriela Siracusano interviewed Mondongo as part of her archive dedicated to researching the materiality of contemporary artworks. Let us call this “Situation B.”
This exercise proposes to combine the record of “Situation A” and “Situation B” as a way of exploring the ever-complex relationship between the artist, matter, and the work of art.
